For over 32 years as a dentist, Dr. Robert B. Garelick D.D.S. has been providing comprehensive dental services to patients of all ages in Lindenhurst, Copiague, Babylon and Amityville, NY. As you enter our office, we hope that our homelike atmosphere will make you feel welcomed.
Dr Robert Garelick himself believes that Oral Appliances are more beneficial and comfortable as compared to CPAP. He says, "More than 50% of the patients that have been prescribed the CPAP can't really tolerate it. They find it uncomfortable, noisy, restrictive. So we make oral appliances which treats it differently. Instead of forcing air in to prevent an obstruction, we prevent the obstruction from happening in the first place by holding the lower jaw just a little bit forward. It prevents the tongue from sliding forward and keeps your airway open."
An oral appliance is extremely simple to use and clean. Travelling with a CPAP device means you need to have an extra bulky bag. On the other hand oral appliances fit the palm of your hand which means you don't need to skip treatment when you're not at home. Additionally, there’s no mask to strap to the face and no hose connecting the mask to the pump. It’s much more like sleeping naturally, without a huge apparatus attached to your face.
Moreover, Oral apnea appliances are subtler than CPAP machines. If you’re re-imagining the scene from Brooklyn Nine-Nine in which, much to Gina Linetti's horror she's surrounded by her cousins, each with a buzzing, bulky CPAP machine, a mouth splint may be more to your liking. A sleep apnea mouthpiece creates no additional sound that might keep light sleepers awake (either yourself or a bed partner). A CPAP, on the other hand, blows air continuously all night. It’s not noisy, but it does emit sound.
Our office utilizes state-of-art technology in order to detect any problem areas early. By detecting decay and other problems early, we are able to help our patients avoid costly dental procedures. Dr. Robert Garelick and his staff keep themselves updated on any changes occurring in the world of dentistry in order to provide the highest quality of services.
If you are having difficulty falling asleep, come talk to us. Sleep apnea can become very serious if not diagnosed and treated properly.
